win in the women’s soccer semifinal in Manchester, England, on Monday
afternoon, and sent the Americans into Thursday’s gold medal match
against Japan.
With a penalty shootout only seconds away, Morgan raced to meet
Heather O’Reilly’s cross ahead of her teammate Abby Wambach and sent a
looping header over Canadian goalie Erin McLeod for the decisive goal.
Christine Sinclair struck first for the Canadians by shooting low
past Hope Solo in the 22nd minute, and John Herdman’s team led going
