Alex Morgan’s last-gasp header gave the United States a thrilling 4-3 win in the women’s soccer semifinal in Manchester, England, on Monday afternoon, and sent the Americans into Thursday’s gold medal match against Japan.
With a penalty shootout only seconds away, Morgan raced to meet Heather O’Reilly’s cross ahead of her teammate Abby Wambach and sent a looping header over Canadian goalie Erin McLeod for the decisive goal.
