London Live: Follow Tuesday’s Action at the Olympics

Australia's Sally Pearson, left, beat Dawn Harper of the United States by .02 seconds to capture the gold in the women's 100-meter hurdles.

The track and field action kicked off on Tuesday and started with a crash: Liu Xiang of China tumbling out of the heats of the 110-meter hurdles, taking the 2004 gold medalist out of the competition and flashing back to his similar flameout in Beijing. The women’s hurdles provided legitimate excitement, with Sally Pearson of Australia just holding off American Dawn Harper, the 2008 gold medalist, by .02 seconds. Kellie Wells of the United States finished third and Lolo Jones was fourth.

In the other track and field final, Ivan Ukhov of Russia had a spectacular performance with only one miss and a winning jump of 7.81 meters. Erik Kynard of the United States finished second. Taoufik Makhloufi of Algeria, who had initially being disqualified from the Games for not giving a legitimate effort in the 800, sprinted ahead of the field in the final lap of the 1,500 and won the gold. Leo Manzano of the United States also closed hard and won silver.

In the final day of gymnastics, Aly Raisman of the United States won gold in the floor exercise. Feng Zhe of China won gold in the parallel bars and Deng Linlin won the balance beam. A protest of Raisman’s score by the American team raised it and gave her the bronze.

Beach volleyball has reached the medal rounds, with the American duo of Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh Jennings beating Xue Chen and Zhang Xi of China in one semifinal to reach their third straight gold medal match.

Follow along here for all the action throughout the day.
