London Live: Follow Wednesday’s Action at the Olympics



Allyson Felix won her first individual gold in the 200 meters. 

American Allyson Felix finally won her long-awaited gold medal in the 200 meters with a race that was strong from start to finish. She led at the end of the turn and held off a challenge from Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce of Jamaica, the 100-meter champion. Carmelita Jeter of the United States finished third.

Aries Merritt and Jason Richardson gave the United States team another gold and silver in the 110-meter hurdles.

It’s an all-American final in women’s beach volleyball on Wednesday — Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh Jennings play April Ross and Jennifer Kessy for the gold medal.

Marlen Esparza won the first medal for an American in women’s boxing, but it’s a bronze after she lost her semifinal bout against world champion Ren Cancan of China in the flyweight division. Claressa Shields has a chance for a gold in the middleweight division after she routed Marina Volnova of Kazakhstan, 29-15, in their semifinal bout. She will fight in the gold medal match against Nadezda Torlopova of Russia tomorrow.

In men’s team sports, the U.S. basketball team plays a quarterfinal game against Australia and the water polo team plays a quarterfinal game against Croatia. The volleyball team was swept out of the quarterfinals by Italy.
