For the first time, the United States has sent more women than men to
compete on its Olympic teams in London, reflecting the evolution of
women’s participation in the modern Games. The TimesTalks series hosted a
panel discussion on Wednesday with Olympic athletes past and present
about participating in the Games, how they have prepared and what they
have discovered.
Speakers included the current and former Olympians Teresa Edwards,
Kim Rhode, Mariel Zagunis, Natalie Coughlin and Esther Lofgren. Juliet
Macur of The Times served as moderator.
